A local product is traveling with Governor Jesse Ventura during his 10 day trade mission to Japan. SoySoft Inc., maker of SoySoft Cremes and Lotions, will be one of several Minnesota products showcased during Ventura's trade and tourism mission to Japan. The lotions are made from soybean oil that is extracted at the Midwest Protein facility in Grove City, MN. "We were really lucky" Lucy Larson, SoySoft co-owner said. Larson said that last spring the company was approached by a businessman who was interested in exporting the lotions to Japan. "The Japanese have been aware of the benefits soy for centuries," Larson said, "But I don't believe they have soy lotion." It's been difficult to market SoySoft, Larson said, because it is a new and different product, but sales are increasing and Larson is optimistic about the future. "This is going to be our year. We had a tremendous October," she said. "People are starting to hear about SoySoft." Larson said Ventura's notoriety with the Japanese people should be an asset to both her product and to the state. "If anyone can bring attention to SoySoft, Jesse can. This is exciting for Minnesota and us. I hope something comes out of it," Larson said. The lotions along with other ag related merchandise, will be handed out by the Minnesota delegation to 100 Japanese businessmen as examples of Minnesota products.
